Just Taking Carry on Luggage

Anyone here ever tried taking luggage on a plane just the stuff you can carry on yourself?

I saw that EasyJet will allow you to take pretty much any weight you want now onboard the plane as long as it fits in the standard size and you can lift it yourself on to the overhead compartment.

I think Ryan air has also increased theirs allowance to 10kg?

I think this could be a very good thing in terms of the short weekend breaks where you don`t need to take very much with you.

When I got back from Spain last time we wait almost an hour for the bags to come off the plane, which meant me missing my train and waiting another 1.5 hours or so for it to arrive.

Yeah classic example of this was with BMI when me and my dad flew to Manchester for the weekend to see united play. On they way up we were about a gram or something over the limit but they guy let us take it all on as hand luggage as we explained we were going to be rushing to get to the game in time.

The following day on the way back we were late for the flight anyway, again just a few grams over but the guy decided against us taking it on and forced us to check it in and put it in the hold. Got back to heathrow, over an hour and a half later our bags arrived, we could've been home in that time.

My dad travels to amsterdamn alot and if he is just going for one night he takes one or two bags and takes them as hand luggage. If your not taking alot its the way to go definately!

I`m going to see if all us blokes going to sweden in a few weeks can get our luggage to under 10kg if so then we can all carry it on, but if 1 of us aint able then there`s no point cos we`re all going to be waiting!!

Just be careful with the size of your handluggage

I won't allow any trolley bags as handluggage - mostly because they won't fit into the baggage gauges but also because they're heavy before anything goes into them.

I thought the 5 kg hand baggage allowance was imposed for our safety, incase any baggage fell out of the over head compartments and any heavier could cause serious injuries.

Flybe who I fly regularly from Southampton to Manchester only allow 5kg still, but they are really quick at getting luggage from the hold as well...longest I've had to wait is 15mins.

All our luggage fitted into the standard sized frame thing they have at check in - we all took carry on only luggage and saved a lot of time at the other end which enabled us to catch the first coach to Stcokholm

however next time we`ll probabaly have to fill our bags with booze cos it was sooo pricey over there.

Whats the rules on alcohol in your luggage?

I can't remember off the top of my head but their is a limit to it - it comes under dangerous goods I think - Can I get back to you on it when I've dug up the literature from my training? :p

What annoys me is that a slim person with a big bag has to pay extra, while a fat person with no luggage pays normal, even if he alone weighs more than the slim person and the bag together.

If people are REALLY fat though they have to buy two seats
